Halloween Offerings and Traditions

Halloween Offerings

Halloween Offerings

October is a time for many Halloween Offerings and Traditions.  Halloween Offerings such as Kale, nuts, leeks and onions instead of candy were the Halloween offings in days of old.  Very disappointing to those of us with sweet tooths, imagine going to the door and someone handing you a bunch of Leeks!!  But at that time they were offerings of Harvest and hope for abundance in the coming year and a way of honoring our ancestors.

“In Scotland, young people went blindfolded into the garden to pull kale stalks; later, before the crackling fireplace, the plants would be “read” for revealing signs of the future wife or husband–short and stunted, tall and healthy, withered and old, and so on. The amount of earth clinging to the root was believed to indicate the amount of dowry the player could expect from a mate. The stalks were then hung above the door in a row, and each Halloween visitor was assigned the identity of a vegetable-spouse in turn. Cabbages and leeks were similarly used.
Nuts as a Halloween offering and tradition,  have been used for magic since Roman times. Some Scottish and northern English people believed nuts were so powerful that sorcerers  called their October 31st celebration “Nut Crack Night”.
Chestnuts and walnuts, both plentiful at harvest time, were popular in early divination games. The most well-known game goes as follows: two nuts are named, each for a potential lover, and put on a grate in the fire. She, who wants to know the future, watches and waits. If a nut burns true and steady, it indicates the lover will have a faithful nature; if it pops in the heat, it indicates the man is not to be trusted.
American History uses apples often for a Halloween offering and tradition, before -store bought candy, things such as popcorn balls, homemade sweets and fruits were given. Cookies piled high on plates and left of porches, as kids had the honor to take one or two.  When cold you were invited inside for snacks and hot cidar!!
In old England, apples and nuts were seen as powerful prognosticators. Celtic folk used them in such in their Halloween divination games for centuries.  There were some Scottish, Irish and British men and women, people from the northern parts of England that celebrated All Hallows with apples and nuts throughout the heyday of Guy Fawkes,  also known  as Firework Night, and is still an annual commemoration observed on 5 November. Its history began with the events of 5 November 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder plot, was arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords.
The night of October 31 was known in parts of the British Isles as “Snap Apple Night”.  The name of this Halloween Traditions came from an old game played by tying the player’s hands behind his back and having him try to bite an apple suspended from a string. Like their English ancestors before them, Americans used apple dunking to find who will marry first. Whoever could snag an apple from a big bucket filled with water, hands tied behind the back, would be wed soonest.
Whatever you choose as a Halloween offering and tradition, STAY SAFE  and have a Happy Halloween.
Happy Halloween

New Moon Butterfly Ritual

new moon ritual

Butterfly Transformation

The new moon is always a time for new beginnings and a perfect time to perform a New Moon Butterfly Ritual.  This new moon on Sept. 20th, is right before the Autumn equinox.  A perfect time to make some transformations.  To spread your wings with a New Moon Butterfly Ritual and recognize yourself in all your beauty and wonder.  It is also the time the last of the Monarch butterflies make their long migratory journey to Mexico after all their transformations of the summer, so it seems a very appropriate time for this particular ritual.

For the new moon Butterfly Ritual, create a space to offer thanks to deceased family and other loved ones.  As it is a time of Harvest, decorate it with Autumn colors.  Use leaves, acorns and other symbols of fall and harvest.

Place a candle in the space you are using for your new moon Butterfly Ritual.  Think of using orange, brown, green and yellows, colors of the harvest.  White also represents transformation, cleansing and also finding your own inner light.

Call upon your ancestors to support and empower your transformation ritual with spiritual power and the blessings of other worlds.

Quiet your mind and reflect on things in your life you would like to change.  Honor and give thanks to those you have helped you grow both past and present.

Thank the universe for the lessons you have learned.

Now look forward into coming year and Picture yourself as you want to be in the next phase of your life, taking on a new shape , new values, goals and fulfilling your Divine purpose.  Stretching and Spreading your wings.  Breathing deeply.

Ask your future Self, “How will you have me change to be the best “me” I can be?”

Allow this time to be a free-flowing exchange between your now self and your future Self and all your past selves.

What does the present me need for transition into a Butterfly.

How shall I live my life as a Butterfly?  What can I do to spread my wings?

What must I thank and leave in the past for my future Self to expand?

and Above all realize you are beautiful in all your stages!!!

Excerpt from the Butterfly Woman “The Self need not carry mountains to transform. A little is enough, a little goes a long way, and a little changes much.”

End your ritual with a prayer of thanks and don’t forget to thank yourself.

“I am loved and supported. I am beautiful through all my transitions that are allowing me to reach contentment in my life.”

After completing your Butterfly Transformation Ritual you may wish to write down your immediate feelings and thoughts to refer to as you continue your transformation.

Change your life? change the tune

play a different song

change life, change tune

All my life I heard my Granny say “stop sounding like a broken record, change your life change your tune”.  Being preteen and teen, I had no concept of what that meant.  It was much easier being caught in the drama of my own small world.
As we become older those “tunes” , songs, broken records begin to play automatically.  We seem to be program to think negative.  Our subconscious holds onto every negative word and criticism.  It seems I heard once we have about a 1000 neg. thoughts per min. compared to 10 positive in our subconscious.   So the key is to keep our mind busy with new songs until  we reprogram the old.
Changing the tune
Through consistent focused repetition and action with clear intentions (keyword-clear intentions) we can change the broken record so it does not continue to repeat over and over.  This includes the repeated patterns in finding relationships.  Often we just want someone for the sake of having someone because we have been programmed that is what we should do.  Never mind if they are singing the same song in harmony.
First and more than likely hardest, is relaxing the mind so you can hear the music.  A relaxed state of mind instantly
shows confidence to you subconscious mind and allows you to put in a new program.  Much like in a relationship, you staying relaxed and confident allows your partner to see you are clear on who you are.
Force never works!  All that does is cause tension and resistance in all areas but especially in your brain.  What does work is repetition, reprogramming, singing a different tune.
With repetition, your positive commands will become firmer, stronger and charged with a magnetic energy that acts in a positive way.  You know how you listen to a new song over and over?  Next thing you know, you automatically know the words without thinking.
Chanting your new tune and mantras has a powerful effect on the subconscious mind.
“change my life, change my tune”  I actually made up a song with things in it and sang it constantly (to the tune of Oh! Susanna) changing verses as needed.  I sang it loudly , in the car, at home and in my head while shopping.  It became a sort of positive game to make up the verses. And of course that also kept me focused on the positive, as well as laughing at myself for being silly.
Rhythmic and musical repetition of your affirmations has a soothing,  hypnotic effect on your subconscious mind. Your words will easily take root when chanted repetitively with musical rhythm.
Be aware of the subtle changes.  This helps you feel encouraged.  Your affirmations are working, as well as training your mind to look for and focus on what’s working in your life.
Tis said , it takes 21 days to form a habit, it probably takes longer to break one.
Be open to seeing results come easily when you are not grasping and fighting but rather training your mind to see the positive that does work and release what does not.   This will allow you to create more of what does work.  And to hum a lovely tune that will change your life.  This is also true of putting more positive thought into a relationship.  So you may see, not only do you need to change your life by changing your tune, you need someone who is listening to the same type of music.
Remember it is not what happens in your life, but how you choose to respond to it that gives you your results.

May pole Dance

May Pole Dance

May Pole Dance

It is almost impossible to think of May Day without thinking of a May pole and a May pole dance.  Many of us did this as a child and remember the joy of  weaving in and out and watching the ribbons become shorter forming a braid around the pole at the end (hopefully).

It is one of the popular symbols of the season and represents not only the fact that Spring is in full swing but the divine marriage of the Lord and Lady of the Greenwood, making this a time for romance as well.

The pole represents the male and is usually cut from a fir tree whose branches have been stripped.  It is them raise upright with great flourish and much ado.

Whatever type of ribbons you use you will need an equal number and at least 2 separate colors, as this is for an equal number of males and females traditionally.  They will need to be about 2 times as long as the  May pole as the braiding takes up the length and at least 2 inches wide.  The ribbons are attached to the top of the pole and crowned with a circlet of flowers, preferably made the morning of May day from fresh flowers.

As for the dance itself, there are usually 8 dancers for each sabbat paired into couple but this has gone by the wayside as the old tradition of the May pole dance have.   It involves moving in a circle weaving in and out of the other dancers ie men would take one color on their left and women another color on their right, remember you will be going in opposite directions.  Men begin by weaving under the upheld ribbon of the first woman.  This is/was symbolic of the birth canal.  The dance continues until the May pole is wrapped with the ribbons, they are tied off and the wreath is dropped.

Many dancers wear bells and make their steps a skip or little jog, whatever the music dictates and to celebrate happiness.

If done right , your May pole should begin to look like the photo on the right!!

Good luck and have a happy May Day!!

The one who takes the last piece of pie, shall find a rich husband

That must have come back in the day when being heavy was a sign of abundance.  Men like fat wives as it showed they were good providers!

In all the times I ate that last piece of pie (and my Granny made great pie) not one rich man knocked on my  door with a ring.

Have a great day and enjoy the pie

FULL SNOW MOON Feb 21/22 2016

The Full Moon is in Virgo, it is called a Full Snow Moon as usually this is the moon when the snow in the deepest.

It was also called the Hunger Moon by American Indians as it was a time when the hunting was the most difficult.  The Cherokee called it Bone Moon as they found it was a time when the menu was chewing on bones or drinking bone marrow broth.

Who knew in 2016 with the Paleo diet, it would be the rage!!

The old song “dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones” actually got it wrong.  They are quite moist and tasty and make an extremely tasty broth!  Below is a simple recipe from Wellness Mama that may make you day a little warmer.

  • 2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Optional: 1 bunch of parsley, 1 tablespoon or more of sea salt, 1 teaspoon peppercorns, additional herbs or spices to taste. I also add 2 cloves of garlic for the last 30 minutes of cooking.

You’ll also need a large stock pot to cook the broth in and a strainer to remove the pieces when it is done.

Be Still and Wait

Bright Sunlight Rays Wide Desktop Background

“When you are in doubt, be still, and wait;
when doubt no longer exists for you, then go forward with courage.
So long as mists envelop you, be still; be still until the sunlight
pours through and dispels the mists — as it surely will. Then act
with courage.” ~ Ponca Chief White Eagle

When we come to a stressful place in our lives, be it in a relationship, financial or family, the natural  thing is to react (or overreact as the case may be) and try to change the situation immediately.  This is based on the information we have at the moment, which is usually just a glimpse of the entire picture. We find ourselves saying “I don’t know what to do” ,  Well, this is the time to be still and wait!!

Do Nothing until we have all the information

Breakups and arguments are a prime example of this,  we get caught up in the heat of the moment and say things we should not.  Words that can never be taken back no matter how many times you say, I am sorry.

We burn up the phone or write scathing emails of all that you have done to me.

Waiting 24 hours for the dust to settle, emotions to calm and to review the situation will give a whole new prospective on how you perceive things and the reality of the situation.   Time to place the  real feelings where they truly belong.  Time to view it with both doors wide open to see the whole panorama of the situation.

Anger and frustration usually stem from another emotion, fear is one ie when your kids do something dangerous, fear that someone is leaving us, that we are not good enough, fear a situation will continue.  But the immediate overwhelming rush of adrenaline  blocks any logic.

Be still and wait

Often in 24 hours , it will resolve itself or at least look entirely different.

People often find that they are at a crossroads in life and feel depressed or stuck and want to do something even if it is wrong, just to make something happen.  Remember, “Don’t try to create movement because nothing is happening as you could create negative movement”   which  often leads to a more chaotic situation.  Try to give yourself time to view the entire situation from all sides.

In other words

Be still and wait!!

You may want to light a blue candle as this can have a calming effect on your mood or yellow with a twist of lemon to uplift the spirits.

Have a great and calm day

Energy Flipping or Candle Flipping

red candle 1

Ever just have that really bad day?  Or seems a bit down with no reason?  Try Energy Flipping.

Often times we have a stressful period in our lives or several negative things come at once.  This creates a build up of negative energy in the home.

Energy Flipping or candle flipping as it  is also called , is a simple exercise to reverse the vibrations in a surrounding.

Many people think of candle work as a witchcraft thing when actually, it is simply shifting the energy and providing something on which to focus  depending on the need.

The term “flipping a candle” started with the gypsies in Brussels.  They would flip candles to ensure they would not get caught committing a crime or that things would go gentle if they did.

The color Red has the highest vibration of all the other colors and can pull energy to you, so it stands to reason that flipping (or reversing) a red stick candle will make that energy go away!  ie Energy Flipping!

How to Energy Flip or flip a candle:

If you want something to go away, take a red stick candle, cut off the top so you can put that end in the holder.  Cut the bottom of the candle to expose the wick.  Place the candle upside down in the holder.  Now light the wick you have exposed,  releasing all the negative energy and Voila!!  Energy Flipping

This act of Energy Flipping can be done anytime.  There is never a bad time to flip a red candle to remove negative energy.

This can be used when you are sensing outside interference in things also.

And if you have a bit of competition in a relationship -tis said- Energy Flipping can be used for that also but you must write the persons name on the candle that is interfering.

Have a great day and flip away!!!!!
